The 7.3L 2V DEVCT NA PFI V8 gas engine is standard on F-250 and F-350 models. It produces 420 hp at 5,350 rpm and 445 lb-ft of torque at 4,250 rpm. The block is cast iron with a forged-steel crankshaft. This engine uses port fuel injection and is compatible with 87-octane regular fuel. It is not E85 compatible. Maximum available payload with this engine reaches 7,900 lbs on a properly configured F-350 DRW.
The 6.7L High-Output Power Stroke V8 Turbo Diesel B20 engine is standard on the F-450 and available across all other Super Duty models. It produces 500 hp at 2,600 rpm and 1,200 lb-ft of torque at 1,600 rpm. It features a water-jacketed turbocharger, glow plugs for cold-weather starts, and diesel engine exhaust braking that creates back pressure to help slow the truck on grades and reduce overall brake wear. This engine enables the 40,000 lb maximum available gooseneck tow rating on a properly configured F-450.
Both engines pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The gas engine uses the TorqShift-G 10-speed with five selectable drive modes: Normal, Slippery, Tow/Haul, Eco, and Off-Road or Trail. The diesel uses the TorqShift 10-speed SelectShift Automatic, built to handle higher torque loads, with the same five selectable modes. Both transmissions gain a sixth Rock Crawl mode when the Tremor, FX4, or XL Off-Road Package is added.
Tow/Haul mode modifies transmission shift points and enables engine braking, which helps maintain control on grades and reduces unwanted gear hunting while towing.
Drive type is 4×2 or available 4×4 across the lineup. Power take-off provision is available, with diesel PTO torque reaching 300 lb-ft and gas PTO torque reaching 250 lb-ft.
